Washington County Announces New Way to Pay Taxes

BARTLESVILLE, Ok — 21 December, 2007 — Washington County Treasurer Stan Stevens has announced that residents can now make tax payments online, in addition to at the agency office.

For added convenience, taxpayers may use an American Express®, Discover®, MasterCard® or VISA® credit card, debit card or electronic check to make a payment.

The Agency has contracted with Point & Pay, a third party vendor, to operate as an extension of the County's customer support and payment processing services.

Stevens said he is pleased to be able to offer the service to taxpayers and praised members of his senior staff and the county’s Information Technology department for their work in implementing of the new service.

He pointed out that there is an additional fee involved for using this service and cautioned taxpayers to be aware of the fees when making their payments.

All fees are retained by the service provider.

“It is the hope of the treasurer’s office that this service will be a benefit to taxpayers and make the payment of their taxes more convenient,” Stevens said.

According to Stevens, the new service gives residents a flexible, secure method of making payments conveniently and on time. Depending upon credit card benefits, cardholders can earn rewards such as airline miles or other bonuses when paying their taxes through Point & Pay.

The first half payments for Washington County tax bills are due Jan. 15, with the balance due March 31.

Residents can make an online tax payment through the Internet by going to http://www.countycourthouse.org/main.htm and clicking on “Pay Taxes Online” under Quick Reference Links.

Information requested will include owner’s name and credit/debit card or checking account information. A nominal fee is calculated and charged for this convenient service.
