Roswell, NM — October 22, 2008 — The Chaves County Treasurer has announced that residents can now make property tax payments online, in addition to at the agency office. For added convenience, taxpayers may use an American Express®, Discover®, MasterCard® or VISA® credit or debit card to make a payment. The County has contracted with Point & Pay, a third party vendor, to operate as an extension of their customer support and payment processing services.
“In our constant efforts to provide quality service to Chaves County tax payers, we offer another alternative method to our citizens for paying taxes and other fees,” says Chief Deputy Treasurer, Steve Harris. “Traditionally, tax payers have had the option to pay by mail or by visiting us at our office. Our hope is that this new service option will provide alternative benefits to our citizens. Anyone with questions about paying by credit or debit card is encouraged to contact our office at (575) 624-6618.”
The new service gives residents a flexible, secure method of making payments conveniently and on time. Depending upon individual card benefits, cardholders can even earn rewards such as airline miles or other bonuses when paying their taxes with a credit card.
After they receive their tax bill, residents can make an online payment by going to the county’s website at http://co.chaves.nm.us/treasurer.htm and clicking on the “PAY TAXES ONLINE” button.
Customers will need the Account Number and the amount of the tax that is to be paid. This information can be found on their tax bill. Customers will also need credit or debit card information. A fee of $2.00 or 2.95% is calculated and charged for this service. This ‘convenience fee’ is not collected by the Treasurer’s Office. Customers may view the total amount, including the convenience fee, prior to authorizing the transaction.
